Housing Projects
As well as many commissions from individual clients to design their new homes, the practice has also produced site layouts and designs for Developers for housing estates, and for new build flats.
Alterations & Extensions
The office being based in a small rural town, serves the immediate local community, and takes on commissions for alterations and extensions to properties in and around the town. We have also been involved with a number of private swimming pools as either extensions to or as part of the initial designs of houses.
Conversions
The Practice has extensive experience in the conversion of redundant buildings into dwellings, often as individual dwellings from barns, and other similar buildings, but also as larger developments creating a number of dwellings out of mill buildings etc. Each requires a sensitive approach to retain much of the character of the original building.
Traditional New Houses
Many of our clients require their houses to be of traditional construction and appearance, which we can accommodate.
Contemporary New Houses
Recently we have produced a number of schemes for ‘Contemporary Houses’ which look more to the present and the future, rather than the past, utilising modern materials and construction, creating a modern feel and look.
Replacement Dwellings
Over the recent years, we have had experience of designing and detailing ‘Replacement Dwellings’. This is where a client/developer purchases an existing bungalow/house which is need of renovation, and when approved, demolishes the existing building to make way for new house which best serves the needs of todays families, and which is more energy efficient.
Timber Frame Construction
In the past we have had a close relationship with a Swedish Timber Frame House company, specialising in one-off house designs with a high level of insulation and energy conservation, and we have designed and built many of these around the country.
Housing Associations
The Practice has worked for North British Housing Association on a variety of projects over many years, including refurbishment, conversion, new build and special needs projects.
Refurbishment
In addition to individual projects, larger schemes include the master plan for the development of Ribble Village in Preston, an area re-habilitation project in conjunction with the DOE to develop 175 new and refurbished houses, a village green, shopping, doctors and dentist surgeries in a deprived area of Preston. A further development was the transformation of two 17 storey tower blocks of flats from vandalised Local Authority rented properties in Preston into 234 privately owned flats with wholesale remodelling and planting of the external areas to provide attractive and defensible communal areas.
